 Freedom on Parole
(Libertad bajo palabra)

Among Paz poetry this is the most outstanding. History, culture, philosophy, all in a single book. I didn't read much poetry but this book made me want to read more. It includes one of Paz lonest and finest poems: 'Sun Stone' a masterpiece of poetry. Paz likes to explore a new language trough the freedom of new words.

Sor Juana or, The Traps of Faith
(Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz; o, Las trampas de la fe)

It is a portrait of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Mexican writer, and her times. Also it is a good introduction for other Octavio Paz's books, like 'The Labyrinth of Solitude' and his poetry.

 The Labyrinth of Solitude
(El laberinto de la soledad)

Is a great book not only for Mexicans or Latin Americans, for all the world, because it tells us why we have certain behaviors in our life.
/Jaime Cervantes, 28, Mexico

It's a great novel specially if you are Hispanic. This book gives you different perspectives of how people think of Mexico's culture. It's a full context of Mexico's history. It gives you an idea of how people think when they are raised in the United States. There is definitely two different worlds between Mexico and the USA I would recommend it to anybody who is eager to find out history about Mexico. Its contents are from time ago to the present life.

Having re-read his work in light of a broader experiential social context than my younger reactionary days, it has a persistent truth beyond the regionalistic, it is rather, existential. O. Paz describes what psychologist today name a 'narcissistic disorder', the fragmented self, really, the problem of post-modern society. The general society today is experiencing this depleted self.
