The Nobel Stamps of 1961

 

The Swedish Post Office issued on December 9, 1961, three new stamps of the values 20, 40 and 50 öre. The following persons have been awarded the Nobel Prize in 1901:

WILHELM CONRAD RÖNTGEN (1845–1923), "in recognition of the extraordinary services he has rendered by the discovery of the remarkable rays subsequently named after him." (Physics)

RENÉ FRANCOIS ARMAND PRUDHOMME (1839–1907), "in special recognition of his poetic composition, which gives evidence of lofty idealism, artistic perfection and a rare combination of the qualities of both heart and intellect." (Literature)

EMIL ADOLF von BEHRING (1854–1917), "for his work on serum therapy, especially its application against diphteria, by which he has opened a new road in the domain of medical science and thereby placed in the hands of the physician a victorious weapon against illness and deaths." (Physiology or Medicine)

JACOBUS HENRICUS van 't HOFF (1852–1911), "in recognition of the extraordinary services he has rendered by the discovery of the laws of chemical dynamics and osmotic pressure in solutions." (Chemistry)
