The stamps portray the Nobel Laureates of 1915:
Sir WILLIAM H. BRAGG (1862–1942) and his son Sir WILLIAM L. BRAGG (1890–1971) further developed previous discoveries about X-rays. Their research led to the use of X-rays for studying the structure of solid matter or crystals. They were awarded the 1915 Nobel Prize in Physics "for their services in the analysis of crystal structure by means of X-rays."
RICHARD WILLSTÄTTER (1872–1942) carried out penetrating research on chlorophyll in plant leaves, and the interest in the chemical properties of chlorophyll grew, when he discovered that it probably consisted of at least two components, instead of a single substance. Willstätter was awarded the 1915 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his researches on plant pigments, especially chlorophyll."
ROMAIN ROLLAND (1866–1944) studied literature, music and philosophy. His lectures on the history of music at Sorbonne attracted great attention. His major work was "Jean-Christophe", a novel series in ten volumes, which he wrote from 1904 to 1912 and it was "Jean-Christophe" that won him the 1915 Nobel Prize in Literature "as a tribute to the lofty idealism of his literary production and to the sympathy and love of truth with which he has described different types of human beings."
