The Nobel Stamps of 1988

The stamps were engraved by Martin Mörck after originals by Urban Frank, who also designed the illustration on the First Day Cover. The printing is by recess/offset at the PFA. The cancellation was designed by Jan Magnusson.

The stamps portray Nobel Laureates in Chemistry:

The American WILLARD FRANK LIBBY was awarded the 1960 Prize in Chemistry for his method of using carbon-14 as a dating technique in archeology, geology, geophysics, and other scientific fields.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded in 1963 was shared by the West German KARL ZIEGLER and the Italian GIULIO NATTA. Their research has made it possible for us to give desired properties to man-made plastics.

The Englishman AARON KLUG, Nobel Chemistry Laureate in 1982, developed electron microscopy into a usable method for making proteins visible.

The Russian-born, Belgian scientist lLYA PRIGOGINE was awarded the 1977 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery of spontaneous order in matter, not in chemical balance.
