The Nobel Stamps of 1995

The stamps and the first day cover were designed by Svenolov Ehrén. Cancellation: Olöf Baldursdottir. The stamps were engraved by Czeslaw Slania and printed by combined recess/offset at Sweden Post Stamps. The stamp with Alfred Nobel's portrait is a joint issue with Germany.

 

Alfred Nobel's Will

The handwritten text that gave birth to the famous Nobel Prize was found in Alfred Nobel's will dated 27 November 1895. The will was opened after Nobel's death 10 December 1896 and was a sensation. Most of the immense fortune was left to a foundation for awards to those who "in the past years have benefitted mankind the most."
