The Nobel Stamps of 2000

The stamps were designed by Lars Sjööblom and engraved by Czeslaw Slania and Lars Sjööblom. The stamps were printed by recess at Sweden Post Stamps.

The stamps portray Nobel Laureates in Literature:

NELLY SACHS
Nelly (Leonie) Sachs (1891–1970) was born in Germany, but lived in Sweden from 1940. She dedicated her first work, Legends and Tales, to Selma Lagerlöf, who helped her flee from the Nazis in 1940. The persecution of Jews recurred in her work. She got the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1966.

WISLAWA SZYMBORSKA
Wislawa Szymborska was born in 1923 and grew up in Cracow. In her early poems, which she wrote after the end of WWII, Szymborska was influenced by another Pole, the then future Literature Laureate (1980), Czeslaw Milosz. Her own, mature style as a poet emerged in the mid-1950s. She got the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996.

The first-day cover was designed by Gustav Malmfors after originals by Karl-Erik Forsberg.
