THE RED CROSS
The Red Cross is a humanitarian agency active in 176 countries all over the world. It was founded in 1863 by the Swiss humanitarian HENRI DUNANT after he had seen the battle of Solferino in Italy. After this horrifying exprience Dunant started to think about establishing an organization with volunteers in peacetime that could care for victims of battle in time of war.

MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES (DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS)
Médecins Sans Frontières is an international, non-governmental organisation founded in 1971. The initiators were a group of French doctors who had worked for the RED CROSS in Biafra and felt there was a need for an independent medical aid organisation where people in the field could speak openly about abuse and corruption in the countries where they work.

The first-day cover was designed by Gustav Malmfors after originals by Gunnar Brusewitz. Cancellation: Gustav Malmfors.
