On behalf of the Médecins Sans Frontières, 1999 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Dr. Marie-Eve Raguenaud receives the gold medal and the diploma from the chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Francis Sejersted.
Médecins Sans Frontières will "remain outspoken, passionate and deeply committed to its core principles," said its president, James Orbinski, in his Nobel Lecture at the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony at the Oslo City Hall in Norway, 10 December 1999. Other Médecins Sans Frontières representatives underlined this message by wearing t-shirts to bring attention to the victims of the ongoing war in the breakaway Republic of Chechnya in Russia.
