Luiz Davidovich is professor emeritus at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a distinguished fellow of the Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering of the University of Texas A&M.

Luiz Davidovich received his PhD in physics from the University of Rochester, USA and has worked on quantum optics and quantum information from that point.

Davidovich is professor emeritus at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a distinguished fellow of the Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering of the University of Texas A&M. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries (TWAS) and an international member of the United States National Academy of Sciences (NAS), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC).

Davidovich was awarded the Brazilian Grand Cross of the National Order of Scientific Merit in 2000, the TWAS Physics Prize in 2001, and the Alvaro Alberto Prize, the most important prize for science in Brazil, in 2010. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, the Optical Society of America, and the International Science Council. He was president of ABC for two terms, from 2016 to 2022, and Secretary General of TWAS, from January 2019 to December 2022.
