Bill Tai is a venture capitalist, educator and athlete

As a venture capitalist, Bill Tai’s early-stage funding of startups has led to over 20 of his companies becoming listed companies via initial public offerings (IPO’s) primarily on NASDAQ. Beyond his role as an investor/board director in projects he has backed, he is an entrepreneur having served as co-founding Chairman of Treasure Data and MetaGood Inc, founding Chairman of IPinfusion and iAsiaWorks, and currently serves as Chairman of Hut8Mining (NASDAQ: HUT) a Web3 infrastructure company which is among North America’s largest Bitcoin and digital asset miners.

Tai was originally educated as a microchip designer and initially worked for LSI Logic in Silicon Valley.  In 1987 he moved to Taiwan to work for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in its formative year; TSMC has since grown to become the world’s 12th most valuable company (as of 9/1/2022).

He is the founder of ACTAI Global, a non-profit that supports our environment and economic empowerment via entrepreneurship. He is also cofounder of ExtremeTechChallenge, bringing emerging companies aligned with the UN Sustainability Goals to the forefront via a worldwide competition.  Tai holds a Bachelor of Science with honors in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois, and has an MBA from Harvard where he concentrated in capital markets.
