Toshi H. Arimura
Toshi H. Arimura is a professor of economics at Waseda University. Before joining Waseda, Arimura was a professor at Sophia University, a visiting scholar with George Mason University, and Resources for the Future as an Abe Fellow.
Toshi H. Arimura is a professor of economics at Waseda University. Before joining Waseda, Arimura was a professor at Sophia University, a visiting scholar with George Mason University, and Resources for the Future as an Abe Fellow. He was also a visiting scholar at the Paris School of Economics and Sciences Po. Arimura’s research interests include climate policy, energy policies and air pollution regulations. He has published his research in academic journals such as Journal Environmental Economics and Management, Journal of Association of Environmental and Resources Economics, and Energy Policy. He coedited “Carbon Pricing in Japan (Springer)” which received the commentary award from the Society for Environmental Economics and Policy Studies (SEEPS). Arimura has also received Outstanding Publication Awards from SEEPS and the Society of Environmental Science, Japan. In 2023, he received the Ichimura prize in science against global warming for Excellent Achievement.
Arimura served as the president of SEEPS and is an executive board member of the Asian association of environment and resources economics. He has also served on Japanese government committees on environmental issues including the committees on carbon pricing under the ministry of the Environment and chaired the carbon credit committee under the ministry of economy, trade and industry. Arimura has also been on the editorial boards of academic journals such as Review of Environmental Economics and Policy, and Environmental Economics and Policy Studies.
He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Minnesota, an MS from the University of Tsukuba and a BA from the University of Tokyo.
