Jules Hoffmann

27-29 November 2017

Nobel Laureate Jules Hoffmann visited Barcelona, Madrid and Seville in November 2017 for a Nobel Prize Inspiration Initiative event run in partnership with AstraZeneca. He took part in informal discussions with students and scientists and gave interviews on stage. His lectures described his journey to receiving a Nobel Prize and gave insight into his work on the defence mechanisms that organisms, from the most primitive up to humans, employ against infectious agents. The Nobel Prize Inspiration Initiative in Spain visited the following institutions:

  • University of Barcelona
  • Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB)
  • Autonoma University of Madrid (UAM)
  • Hospital La Paz Institute for Health Research (IdiPAZ)
  • August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS)
  • AstraZeneca Spain
  • Spanish National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC)
  • Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBIS)
  • University of Seville

Since 2010, Nobel Media and AstraZeneca have together arranged Nobel Prize Inspiration Initiative events on four continents, bringing Nobel Laureates into close contact with the global scientific community, especially with young scientists.
