Peter Doherty shared the 1996 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his immunology research and was the 1997 Australian of the Year. Since then, he has gone to bat for evidence-based reality relating to areas as diverse as childhood vaccination, global hunger, and anthropogenic climate change. He has published six books on science, the most recent titled The Incidental Tourist. He is a graduate of the University of Queensland School of Veterinary Science and a member of numerous honorific organisations, including the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the U.S. National Academy of Medicine.
