Victor J. Dzau is President of the National Academy of Medicine, and Co-Chair of National Research Council. He is Chancellor Emeritus and Distinguished James B Duke Professor at Duke University. He was Chairmen of Medicine at Harvard and Stanford Universities. An internationally acclaimed scholar in cardiovascular medicine, he helped create the science underlying the class of live saving drugs known as ACE inhibitors, used to treat hypertension and heart failure. He is a pioneer in cardiovascular gene therapy. Dzau is world renowned for leadership in global health and in developing major national and international health policy initiatives. He serves on Global Preparedness Monitoring Board and is co-chair of the G20-European Commission High Level Scientific Panel on Pandemic Preparedness and Response.  Leading the NAM, he has launched important initiatives such as Global Health Risk Framework, Human Genome Editing and Grand Challenge in Climate and Human Health. He has received Gustav Nylin Medal from Swedish Royal College, Ellis Island Medal of Honor, Poulzer Prize of European Academy of Sciences and Arts and Henry Freisen International Prize.
