Ron Davis Alvarez is founder and artistic director of the Dream Orchestra, an orchestra for refugee children and teenagers in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Ron Davis Alvarez is a musician, teacher and founder of the Dream Orchestra. He specialises in training teachers for children and youth orchestras. He has lectured at conferences and master classes around the world.

In 2016 in Gothenburg, Sweden, Ron Davis Alvarez created the Dream Orchestra with children and teenage refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Kurdistan, Albania, Angola, Eritrea and Somalia. The group has more than 50 members and is distinguished because its musicians have never played an instrument.

The Dream Orchestra model is being emulated in several European countries. The project received the 2021 Ockenden International Prizes for refugee and/or displaced people and is now a role model of education for many music programs worldwide.

For six years, he was the artistic director of the El Sistema Sweden foundation, and developed projects such as the El Sistema play, El Sistema Academy and the El Sistema Sweden national orchestra. He is one of the education tutors at the multimedia management music programme led by Szczecin Philharmonic. In 2011, he founded an orchestra located 700 kilometres away from the Arctic Circle at the Uummannaq Children’s House in Greenland. Davis Alvarez is involved with several orchestras around the world, including in Sweden, Palestine, Jerusalem, Lebanon and Greenland.

In 2020, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music awarded Davis Alvarez with the 2020 Pedagogy Prize for his “unique musical pedagogical competence”. In 2017, the Varkey Foundation selected him as one of the world’s 50 best teachers as part of the Global Teacher Prize. In 2021, he received the Frihetstonen Award from the Torgny Segerstedts Minne Foundation.
