The Nobel Peace Prize 1954
The Nobel Peace Prize 1954 was awarded to Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) "for its efforts to heal the wounds of war by providing help and protection to refugees all over the world"The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees received the Nobel Prize one year later, in 1955. During the selection process in 1954, the Norwegian Nobel Committee decided that none of the year's nominations met the criteria as outlined in the will of Alfred Nobel. According to the Nobel Foundation's statutes, the Nobel Prize can in such a case be reserved until the following year, and this statute was then applied. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees therefore received the Nobel Prize for 1954 one year later, in 1955.
