Motivation:Lord Cecil was one of the principal drafters of the League of Nations Covenant (1919). He contributed greatly to the establishment of the League's institutions and he took a leading role in the its activities. Already in 1916 he had begun to draw up an international peacekeeping agreement, and in 1919, when he attended the Paris Peace Conference, his ideas proved generally compatible with those of President Woodrow Wilson. Lord Cecil was also chairman of the "League of Nations Union" and he used it to raise British public opinion in favour of the League. He was member of the Council of the League of Nations and he contributed to the peaceful settlement of the conflict between Greece and Italy.
