Motivation:Dr Paul Plósz, Budapest, HU, nominated two Hungarian candidates: Prof Andreas Högyes for prophylactic treatment of infectious disease, and Alexander von Koranyi for investigation of the molecular composition of urine. Also mentioned were Roux and Behring (work on serum therapy and diphtheria), R. Koch (work on cholera) and Haffkine and Yersin (work on the plague bacillus). Nomination was declared invalid by the Nobel Committee.
