Motivation:Albert I was nominated for his national sacrifice in order to uphold the idea of international law during World War I. Bourgeois headed the French delegation to The Hague Peace Conferences in 1899 and 1907, where he promoted cooperation among nations. Member of the peace group of the French parliament. He became associated with the Permanent Court of Justice at the Hague in 1903. Bourgeois was one of the initiators of the League of Nations and became the French representative to the League in 1919. Bourgeois advocated disarmament, international law and obligatory arbitration.
