Motivation:Jouhaux was nominated for his efforts to advocate peace and reconciliation between the French and German working classes after World War I. He actively opposed the capitalist interests of the armament industry. He was also one of the founders of the International Labor Organization. The nominator emphasized the importance of Jouhaux work to organize and improve the economic and political situation of the working class and thereby to secure international peace.
