Motivation:Dr. James Carrol of Washington, D.C. was nominated by Prof of pathology Aldred Scott Warthin, University of Michigan. Motivation: as a "surviving member of the Yellow-fever Commission -, with the suggestion that if this choice be made some portion of the prize be divided with the widow of Drs. Reed and Lazear, the other members of this commission". Nomination was declared invalid by the Nobel Committee.
