Motivation:Barclay promoted arbitration, conciliation and international law. He was president of the British Chamber of Commerce 1899-1900. Barclay was a member of the Institute of International Law and deputy Chairman of the International Law Association. Nys promoted international law and arbitration. He was a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague and of the Permanent International Peace Bureau. Nys was the author of "Le droit international" and other works on international law and politics.
