Comments: The nomination was supported by several members of the British parliament. In 1938 Benes had to capitulate to the German ultimatum and Czechoslovakia lost Sudetenland in September. He resigned from office October 5, 1938, and went into exile. In 1939 he was living in the USA, working as a visiting professor at the University of Chicago.
