Some of Ossietzky's friends who were in exile in Paris initiated a campaign to promote his candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize. They hoped that a peace prize would protect him from further atrocities by the Nazi government.
In 1936 Ossietzky was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 1935.
Quidde suggested a divided prize between Ossietzky and Küster. If this was not agreed upon by the Committee, he suggested that the prize was awarded Ossietzky. |
