Motivation:L. Luciani, prof physiology, Rome University, IT, nominated professors Grassi, Marchiafava, Bignami and Dr Bastianelli for studies of the life cycle of the malaria parasite. Also nominated were Drs Lo Monaco (lecturer, Physiology Dept, Rome University) and Panichi (assist lecturer, Univserity of Bologna) for studies of the effects of quinine on the malaria parasite. Dr Dionisi, (assist lecturer, Rome University) was nominated for work on inoculation against malaria. Prof Angelo Celli was nominated for work on the epidemiology of malaria. Nomination was declared invalid by the Nobel Committee.
