Motivation:Dr Joseph Erlanger, Washington University Medical School, St. Louis, MO, US, and dr Herbert S. Gasser, The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, New York, NY, US, were nominated for their work in the development of the cathode ray oscillograph and the many important results obtained by them with their apparatus and particularly those on peripheral nerve. Nominator was Harold E. Himwich, prof physiology and pharmacology, Albany, NY, US. Nomination was declared invalid by the Nobel Committee.
