What is human intelligence and how is it affected by modern technology? Will artificial intelligence (AI) change the world? These are some of the questions that May-Britt Moser and other Nobel Laureates will debate with thought leaders and experts during Nobel Week Dialogue. Registration to this free event opens today at www.nobelweekdialogue.org.
As part of the official Nobel Week programme, Nobel Week Dialogue is an all-day conference to be held on December 9th. This one of a kind event stimulates global dialogue between science and society. A unique panel of Nobel Laureates, world-leading experts and inspiring thought leaders will come together with live and online audiences to explore a topic that poses a crucial challenge to our society. This year, Nobel Week Dialogue is set to explore new scientific and cultural perspectives on the future of intelligence. With elements of digital interaction, our audience will get a glimpse of what the future of intelligent technology holds. There will also be opportunity to explore the will of Alfred Nobel in an entirely new way.
Nobel Laureates and thought-provoking experts
Among the participating Nobel Laureates are May-Britt and Edvard Moser (Medicine 2014), Michael Levitt (Chemistry 2013) and Carl Wieman (2001).
Other inspiring panellists include Microsoft’s Executive Vice President of Technology & Research Harry Shum as well as author, inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil. Kurzweil argues that our exponential development of technology will lead to a technological singularity in just 30 years time, a point where progress is so rapid it outstrips humans’ ability to comprehend it. Barbara Grosz, Higgins Professor of Natural Sciences at Harvard University, will discuss the development of AI and the effects of human interaction with machines. Max Tegmark, Professor of Physics at MIT and co-author (along with Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk) of an open letter warning world leaders that AI is humanity’s biggest threat, will also join the dialogue.
Our minds created technology – but how does technology shape our minds?
According to experts, we are now facing technological development at such a fast pace that its effect on our lives is difficult to fully grasp. When more of our work as well as interactions with friends and family are done using machines and IT, it’s important to discuss the implications on both society and humanity. Are we approaching a new frontier that we shouldn’t pass? These are some of the issues that will be addressed in the dialogue:
– What is intelligence and how will we acquire knowledge in the future?
– How does technology impact the human intellect?
– Will AI change the world?
– How will our technological advances shape our economy – today and tomorrow?
Registration is now open on www.nobelweekdialogue.org. More information about the programme and participating Nobel Laureates and panellists will also be presented here leading up to the event. Those who are unable to attend can follow the live streaming online.
