What role does food play in our lives? Who influences our food choices and how do these impact our planet? These are some of the questions to be discussed when five Nobel Laureates, students and leading experts meet on 11 March. During the day they will share the latest findings and different perspectives in the area of food, with a full house at Pacifico Yokohama Conference Center.
“We are pleased to be back in Tokyo for a new inspiring meeting. Japan has a rich food culture that will bring many interesting perspectives to the theme. I look forward to stimulating discussions on the topic of food, from how science can contribute to solving urgent problems for humankind, to what we can all do to eat healthier,” said Mattias Fyrenius, CEO of Nobel Media AB, which hosts Nobel Prize Dialogue Tokyo in collaboration with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
Five Nobel Laureates, including the Japanese Laureate Yoshinori Ohsumi will attend. Around 20 international scientists and experts will participate. Among these are Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, Marion Nestle, Professor emerita, New York University, Marion Guillou, President of the Board of Directors, Agreenium, Masa Iwanaga, President, Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) and Chiaki Mukai, Japan’s first female astronaut and currently a vice president of the Tokyo University of Science.
Several panels will address questions such as: Can we feed ten billion people? Does space food give a taste of what food will be like in the future? What should we eat to improve health? What is the scientific frontier of food innovation technology?

About Nobel Prize Dialogue
Nobel Prize Dialogue is a free-of-charge, full-day event inspired by Nobel Week Dialogue, which has been taking place in Sweden in Nobel Week since 2012. The event aims to stimulate discussion at the highest level on a topical science-related theme by bringing together Nobel Laureates, the world’s leading scientists, key opinion leaders, policy makers, different interest groups and the general public, online as well as on-site. By bridging science and society, it’s an opportunity to stimulate thinking, excite imagination and inspire greatness! Nobel Prize Dialogue Tokyo 2018 is produced by Nobel Media AB in cooperation with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) with the kind support from Nobel International Partners 3M, Ericsson, Scania and Volvo Cars and Event partners Lotte and Yakult.
