We regret to announce that Jonas Kaufmann has been forced to cancel his participation in next week’s Nobel Prize Concert.
The reason being that the haematoma on Kaufmann’s vocal cords, which have burdened the world-renowned tenor over a prolonged time, are not completely healed. Therefore, Jonas Kaufmann and his doctors have reluctantly made the decision to cancel his appearance at the Nobel Prize Concert.
At the same time, we are happy to announce that violinist Janine Jansen is delighted to participate as a soloist, performing the great Brahms Violin Concerto. This is a piece she has held close to her heart for over twenty years – a piece which she loves and masters in full. The Italian maestro Gianandrea Noseda remains as conductor and will give his interpretation of Beethoven’s Symphony No 6, together with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, in the second half of the concert.
Comment from The Stockholm Concert Hall Executive & Artistic Director Stefan Forsberg:
We would of course have been very happy with Jonas Kaufmann’s presence at the Nobel Prize Concert, but these things unfortunately occur sometimes with singers, since the body itself is their instrument. We hope that the world will soon have the possibility to hear Kaufmann’s voice again. At the same time, we deeply appreciate that another of the world’s leading artists, violinist Janine Jansen, has made herself available for this concert at short notice.
Mattias Fyrenius, CEO Nobel Media, comments:
We feel for Kaufmann and for all opera lovers who were looking forward to an evening with the world renowned tenor. At the same time, we are both happy and proud to present Janine Jansen, who we know will give the Nobel Laureates and our concert audience a fantastic evening.
