The Board of Nobel Media AB has appointed Laura Sprechmann as the new Chief Executive Officer. Today she is Deputy CEO of Nobel Media and has previously been head of Nobel Media’s external partnerships.
Nobel Media AB is responsible for the international work of the Nobel sphere. The company spreads knowledge about Nobel Prize-awarded contributions and stimulates interest in science, literature and peace efforts via digital channels and inspiring events. Nobel Media is also responsible for the Nobel sphere’s partnerships.
“Today when the value of science and knowledge are being questioned and peace is being threatened, the idea of the Nobel Prize is perhaps more important than ever. Nobel Media is thus genuinely needed. Through this company, the idea of the Nobel Prize is being spread around the world. Every year we meet thousands of people in different parts of the world, while the Nobel Prize has more than five million followers on social media,” says Lars Heikensten, Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation and Board Chairman of Nobel Media AB.
“Given her commitment, solid background and experience from both the media field and international work, I am convinced that Laura Sprechmann is the right person to lead Nobel Media in its continued efforts to enhance the outreach activities of the Nobel Prize,” says Lars Heikensten.
“I am proud and honoured to be able to assume one of the leading positions in a context as important as the Nobel Prize. In the coming years, one of our priorities will be an international focus on learning and education. Our ambition is to inspire, especially young people, to seek knowledge and ask new questions. Nobel Media plays a significant role in this, through its broad range of activities and global presence. I look forward to expanding this responsibility together with all my colleagues and the entire Nobel Prize organisation,” says Laura Sprechmann.
Laura Sprechmann will assume the role of CEO immediately.
Since the mid-1990s, broad activities have been built up around the Nobel Prize in order to provide information about Alfred Nobel and the contributions of the Nobel Laureates for the greatest benefit to humankind. Nobel Media AB is one of several entities in this organisation. Today these Nobel Prize-related public activities include museums in Stockholm and Oslo, international meeting and exhibition programmes, school and educational activities, TV productions, concerts and an extensive digital presence.
