‘Nobel Prize Conversations’ is returning with new episodes. This time out, listeners meet the class of 2022 Nobel Prize laureates including Morten Meldal, Carolyn Bertozzi and Svante Pääbo, who share tales from their lives, their careers, and their failures and successes.
In the first episode – launched today – host Adam Smith speaks to 2022 chemistry laureate Morten Meldal. He opens up about his interests outside science, such as painting, books, music and even building his own guitars. Meldal also recalls the moment he crossed the stage in Stockholm to receive his Nobel Prize medal.
“My daughter was sitting on the second or third row and I could see that she was crying. And tears actually are contagious. So I was almost crying when I had to go up and receive the prize because of that.”
In the episode Medal also speaks about teaching and how to inspire his students and advocating pleasure driven teaching.
“I’m really enjoying my time with the students, trying to solve some problems. You have to challenge the students and yourself and when you do that you often hit your head on a brick wall. And then you have to get together and solve that problem. I love that process where everybody is coming with an input and we try to make a solution to those problems.”
‘Nobel Prize Conversations’ is a podcast with a new episode every Thursday. The host for the podcast is Adam Smith, who has the happy task of interviewing the Nobel Prize laureates. The podcast is produced by Filt Hinterland and Nobel Prize Outreach in cooperation with Fundación Ramón Areces.
