Bringing extra star power to this year’s Nobel Prize Concert on 8 December will be German soprano Diana Damrau. Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck will lead the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra at the concert, which is held in honour of the Nobel Prize laureates.
“The Nobel Prize Concert is a highly appreciated feature of the Nobel Week,” says Laura Sprechmann, CEO of Nobel Prize Outreach. “This year’s laureates are being invited to attend the concert, together with laureates from 2020 and 2021. It will be magnificent to experience the concert in person together with the laureates again.”
German opera star Diana Damrau performs on all the major stages in the world, such as the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan (where she has also had the honour of inaugurating the entire season on two occasions) and the Royal Opera House in London. For many years she has been in the absolute top tier of opera singers, and she is now making her debut at Konserthuset Stockholm (the Stockholm Concert Hall). Among other things, she will sing opera arias by Mozart.
“The Nobel Prize Concert is a tradition that we are very proud of. It is wonderful to be able to welcome Diana Damrau here for the very first time,” says Stefan Forsberg, Artistic and Executive Director of Konserthuset Stockholm. “Many people probably recognise her from the Metropolitan Opera’s broadcasts over the years. This will be a moment of celebration.”

In recent years, Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck has built a close relationship with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. He is Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra but also conducts many of the world’s other most prestigious orchestras. For many people in Sweden, he is also a well-known name after his years as Chief Conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
The Nobel Prize Concert, an annual event, is part of the official Nobel Week programme and is a tribute to the year’s Nobel Prize laureates. It is presented by Nobel Prize Outreach in collaboration with Konserthuset Stockholm. In addition to the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, every year it features elite musicians and conductors.
More information about the programme and ticket releases will be announced later.
