Two influential public figures elected to the board of the Nobel Center Foundation

Researcher and author Emma Frans and Susanna Pettersson, Director General of Nationalmuseum, are joining the board of the Nobel Center Foundation.

The Nobel Center Foundation (Stiftelsen Nobel Center) is responsible for the public activities currently being carried out by the Nobel Prize Museum in Stockholm’s Old Town and which in the future will move into the Nobel Center at Slussen. The foundation will also have overall responsibility for constructing the new building at Slussen in Stockholm.

“The Nobel Center will be one of the most exciting new museum buildings and museum concepts in the Nordic countries. Being able to create opportunities for the audience to experience the value of science and creativity in society is perhaps more important than ever. I am really looking forward to contributing my knowledge to the process as a board member,” says Susanna Pettersson, Director General of Nationalmuseum (the National Museum of Fine Arts) and adjunct professor of museology.

Emma Frans is a doctor of epidemiology, a researcher at Karolinska Institutet and previously at the University of Oxford: “I have worked for a long time to make science accessible to more people. We really need to engage people in the important issues of the future, and new physical meeting places can play an important role. This is why it feels completely right for me to take on this board assignment. ”

Nobelhuset AB was previously responsible for building the Nobel Center. That responsibility is now being consolidated in the Nobel Center Foundation. Birgitta Ed, Stefan Ränk and Fredrik Wirdenius, who sit or have previously sat on the board of Nobelhuset AB, will now be members of the board of the Nobel Center Foundation.

Nobel Foundation

The Nobel Foundation is a private foundation established in 1900 on the basis of the will of Alfred Nobel and the founding statutes promulgated in connection with the will. Its primary purpose is to ensure that the intentions of the will of Alfred Nobel are fulfilled. The Foundation is responsible for ensuring that the assets made available for awarding the Nobel Prize are managed in such a way as to safeguard the economic base of the Prize in a long-term perspective and guarantee the independence of the prize-awarding institutions in their work of selecting Laureates.
