Water pollution, floods and a rising sea level. The challenges facing people worldwide when it comes to water management are enormous. To discuss these kind of issues, Nobel Prize laureates, environmentalists and scientists will gather on 23 October in Yokohama for a Nobel Prize Dialogue. The event is free to attend and the program offers enlightening and inspiring discussions on how we can become wise stewards of our planet’s water for the sake of generations to come.
The theme for the Nobel Prize Dialogue is ‘Water Matters’. It is the fifth dialogue organised by Nobel Prize Outreach in cooperation with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). The first one was organised already in 2015.
“We are thrilled to be back in Japan and continue our successful cooperation with JSPS. With the event, we aim to inspire participants to learn and think about the challenges facing civilization when it comes to issues of water and highlight the solutions that science can offer to transform our societies,” says Laura Sprechmann, CEO of Nobel Prize Outreach.
During the conference, a series of discussions will explore how technology and water management systems can help ensure equitable distribution in the future. How we can tackle the devastating consequences of water pollution – both in fresh water resources and in our deep, relatively unexplored oceans. And how we can protect ourselves against the floods that are becoming an increasingly present danger to people worldwide.
Confirmed laureates attending on site include Konstantin Novoselov, 2010 Nobel Prize laureate in physics; Dan Shechtman, 2011 Nobel Prize laureate in chemistry and Kurt Wüthrich, 2002 Nobel Prize laureate in chemistry.
Additionally, there will be laureates attending remotely: Peter Agre, 2003 Nobel Prize laureate in chemistry; Amano Hiroshi, 2014 Nobel Prize laureate in physics and Tim Hunt, 2001 Nobel Prize laureate in physiology or medicine.
The Nobel Prize Dialogue is an open, cross-disciplinary meeting bringing together a unique constellation of Nobel Prize laureates, world-leading scientists, policy makers and thought leaders to discuss global issues that affect us all.
Nobel Prize Dialogue Tokyo 2022 is produced by Nobel Prize Outreach AB in cooperation with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and with the kind support from Nobel International Partners 3M, ABB, Capgemini, EQT, Scania and event partner Suntory.
